Qualcomm Licenses CDMA2000 Technologies to HFCL

Qualcomm has signed an agreement to license 3G CDMA2000 technologies to Indian HFCL (Himachal Futuristic Communications), making HFCL the first Indian maker able to produce 3G telecom equipment. HFCL plans to manufacture CDMA2000 mobile phones and wireless devices in its plants in Chennai and Solan, Himachal Pradesh. The first batch of homegrown 3G mobile phones is projected to hit the Indian market by January 2007.
